Transmedia stories

I use this term repeatedly like these days. This very popular term has however nothing to do with any fashion. It has been imposed by itself comparing to other terms (like cross-media programs, digital storytelling, etc..). Henry Jenkins has done much to explain and popularize it. Today more and more concret examples are used to illustrate it in order to redefine it. Undoubtedly this is also the reason why it is so difficult to explain it in clear and definitive way: its nature makes it evolve constantly according to the new tools and new usages in the public.

ARG

Alternate Reality Game, according to Wikipedia. Or Altered Reality Game by others. Also means Extended Reality Game. All these terms are used alternately to point out the same thing that from my point of view raises a question: are these words really equivalent? Their different meaning does not hid their differences on how these games are designed, and from which perspective they have been imagined? Does alter the fact make it comes back so far to extend the virtual, or to confuse the reality and virtuality? Beyond the words and the actual definition of ARG (is also adjustable), it is the interest of ARG themselves to question today, from an artistic technical and economically point of view. So should not only ask us "What is an ARG, but especially "Why ARG? "
